About

The 34th World Youth Day

Beginning in 1985 under the papacy of St John Paul II, World Youth Day normally takes place each year on Palm Sunday. Every few years a major WYD event takes place and is hosted by a different country. Previous events have been held in the USA, Brazil, the Philippines, and Australia. The theme for this World Youth Day celebration is:

"I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word."

Luke 1:38

An unforgettable experience

World Youth Day is characterized by the joy that young people bring for being together. The time spent at WYD isn’t just an exciting holiday though – it’s a pilgrimage of faith. The journey of WYD is one where every young person is invited to go beyond themselves, outside of what’s normal and comfortable, so that they can encounter Jesus Christ in new places, people and experiences.
